In Context: Briefing on Israel’s Warfare Tactics + Efforts to Halt Arms Transfers
Earlier this month, a +972 Magazine/Local Call investigation revealed that the Israeli military is using an AI machine called “Lavender” to identify human targets with little to no oversight, intentionally bombing them in their homes alongside civilians. The White House noted that it was examining the contents of the investigation, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed that he was “deeply troubled” by the report, adding “No part of life and death decisions which impact entire families should be delegated to the cold calculation of algorithms.” Revelations such as these are fueling global efforts to halt arms transfers and condition military aid to Israel, with pressure particularly mounting on the U.S. and German governments, which are estimated to supply around 99 percent of the arms imported by Israel.
Join this briefing on tomorrow, Apr. 17, 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET / 8:00-9:00 p.m. Jerusalem time for the next installment of “In Context: Briefings on Israel-Palestine,” to hear about the above developments and more by registering here.
