Sharret, Moshe
(1894-1965) A Jewish Israeli political figure of Ukrainian origin. He immigrated to Palestine in 1908. Sharett became a member of the Jewish socialist party Mapai and, from 1933-1948, took on the role of the Zionist movement’s ambassador and chief negotiator to the British Mandatory Authorities of Palestine. One of the signatories of Israel’s Declaration of Independence in 1948, he served as Israel’s first Foreign Minister until 1956, alongside a short stint as Prime Minister from 1954-1955.
