Settlement Subsidies
The State of Israel historically subsidized much of the Jewish Israeli settler movement. Those who choose to settle in the West Bank are given substantial benefits from both the government and private organizations. For example, the Israeli government offers Jewish Israelis 97,200 shekels for the purchase of a property in a settlement bloc, a 50% reduction on development costs and a 70% reduction on land prices. The Israeli government also provides other subsidies for public transportation to the settlements, which amounted to 31 million shekels in 2011. See Gorenberg, Gershon.
