(1923- ) A Jewish Israeli political figure and peace activist. Founder of Gush Shalom (Hebrew for "Peace Bloc"), an activist peace group founded in 1993. The group was named in reference to - and in contrast to - the settler movement Gush Emunim, "Bloc of the Faithful". Avnery also served three terms as a member of the Israeli parliament.
